Company description

Cindy Xu is a Sydney based award-winning jewellery designer and artist, she had previously worked as a digital game producer and studio executive. Upon moving to Australia, her husband David introduced her to the outback mining towns of Lightning ridge and Coober Pedy. Upon visiting lightning ridge she became fascinated by opal gems. Her fascination soon grown to an obsession to create her own opal jewellery pieces, leading her to expand opal jewellery to new generation of opal lovers like herself.

She trained herself at the Gemmological Institute of America, in 2019 she won the jewellery design award at the Sydney international jewellery fair. According to herself opal mining and opal jewellery design is such a rare skill, she owes much of her knowledge and skill to the miners and opal cutter in Lightning Ridge. As well as visiting mining towns of Australia, she often travel throughout the year to various jewellery exhibitions around the globe.

Wildlife Preservation
Cindy’s Signature pieces often feature genuine Australian boulder opal or black opal sourced from Lightning Ridge. She finds her inspiration from outback adventures, traveling through Australia has inspired her to raise awareness to endangered wildlife species as well as global issues such as biodiversity and climate change.

Awards - Icy Conversation
At the international Jewellery fair held in Sydney, Cindy had won the Jewellery designer award (Australian opal award). The piece ‘Icy Conversation’ was chosen as the finalist among many submission.

This piece expresses captures a moment of enchanting dialogue between a fish and a polar bear, on the ever shrinking glacier. The urgency of their conversation echoes the fragile balance of our planet.

The opal intricately captures the essence of the ocean, while mother-of-pearl and diamonds symbolize the glaciers in their delicate splendour.
